Open Door Community Center in Washington recently welcomed several new members to sit on their Board of Directors. We would like to thank our entire board and staff for their hours of contribution and their help in fulfilling our mission of helping homeless women and children.

OFFICERS

President, Brandy Smith Vinson, MSW, LCSWA – is a full-time Behavioral Health Social Worker for Access East/ECU Health. She attended graduate school at ECU and assisted in starting Open Door in 2016. She resides in Blounts Creek with her husband and 2 children.

Vice-President, Bill Staton – is a Retired Colonel, USAF and joined the ODCC Board in 2018. He resides in Chocowinity.

Secretary, Teresa Carraway – recently retired to Beaufort County from Raleigh where she was a Pre-K Teacher.

Treasurer, Beverly Casey – joined the ODCC board in August of 2022. She is retired and resides in Washington.

BOARD MEMBERS

Doreen Trottier – joined the ODCC board on July 1st, 2021. She serves as the Director of Fundraising and Outreach for ODCC. Doreen is retired and lives in Washington.

Sophia Grear – has worn many hats. She served as a USMC/SGT Field Radio Operator for 12 years, a NYC Public Library Clerk for 4 years and also worked as a Salesperson, a Realtor and a Notary. She retired in 2015 from her 25 years as a San Bernardino County Sheriff, Dispatcher III.

Sally Love – is the former owner of Sunflower Books, the former director of Eagles’s Wings Food Pantry and retired Executive Director of the Beaufort County United Way. She currently serves as the Director of the River City Ringers Handbell Choir.

Deb Ryals – is originally from Durham, NC and has lived in Washington since 2006. She retired first as Director of Social Services in 2000 and a second career retirement from full-time Faculty, ECU School of Social Work.

Susan Zachary – is a retired oral surgeon’s assistant.

Pamela Anderson – joined the ODCC board this year. She is owner of AdMIX Advertising Agency and the coordinator for the Washington Noon Rotary’s Smoke on the Water Festival. Pam has served on many boards of directors including the United Way, the Red Cross, Pamlico Rose, Literacy Volunteers, Carolina Coastal Classrooms and more.

Ann-Marie Montague – moved to Beaufort County 34 years ago from New Jersey. She worked in credit and finance, left corporate America, earned a Masters in Divinity and have worked in the non-profit world for the past 11 years. She currently serves as the Executive Director for Eagles Wings Food Pantry.

Michele Oros – was the director of Grants and Development for Beaufort County Schools between 2003-2017 and retired in July 2017. She has lived in Washington since 1999.

Christy Davenport-Everett – is originally from Pitt County and has been a resident of Washington since 1997. Her work experience includes years of service industry work and most recently, federal nonprofits and contracts. She joined the ODCC staff in May to assist with marketing and fundraising efforts. She holds a Communication degree from ECU and as digital marketing master’s degree from Full Sail University.

Laurie Stewart – got her Masters in Counseling in 2017 with a heavy background in Administration. She and her husband, Josh, have three young adult children.

Veronica Allen – has been a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist for 10 years. She enjoys serving others, providing for her family and making the most of opportunities. She currently serves as Client Services Manager for the Open Door Community Center.

Open Door Community Center was established by a group of volunteers that include churches, community service organizations, civic groups and concerned citizens, dedicated to the mission of understanding and providing safe shelter to Beaufort County women and children who need safe shelter and care.

We strive to create a place that will not only be a safe haven for homeless women and children but a source providing referrals to services that can help them improve their circumstances.
